EGU Session
On Tuesday 10th April 2018 we will host the session “Addressing the challenge of compound events, multi-risk modelling and cross-risk assessment methods: Extremes, inter-dependencies, non-stationarities, impacts and vulnerability” at the EGU General Assembly in Vienna. There will be 6 oral presentations between 15:30-17:00 in room L6. There will also be 18 posters in Hall X1 (poster boards X1.135 to X1.153). Posters will be there all day, with authors in attendance between 17:30-19:00. The session will be convened by representatives from the…

Find out more »3rd Dutch Compound Events Joint Working Day
The joint working days are an initiative started within the Dutch research community working on compound events. The objective of this day is to create a space where researchers can collaborate, meet other researchers within the same field or insights from other related fields and (sometimes) work. We organize this event every 2 month, each time at a different research institute or university. The 3rd edition of the compound events joint working day will be held at the Delft University…

PhD Defense: Multivariate Methods for Coastal and Offshore Risks
On Monday June 11, Wiebke Jäger will defend her PhD thesis at the Delft University of Technology. Wiebke's PhD thesis focuses on how selected multivariate probabilistic methods can be adapted for risk analysis and decision making in coastal and offshore environments. In particular, the thesis makes a contribution to decision support tools for risk reduction efforts in coastal environments and to statistical simulation methods for wave conditions. Title: Multivariate Methods for Coastal and Offshore Risks Where: Delft University of Technology (TU Delft)…

International Conference on Natural Hazards and Risks in a Changing World
The purpose of this conference is to bring together researchers from natural sciences (e.g. hydrology, meteorology, geomorphology, hydraulic engineering, environmental science, seismology, geography), risk research, nonlinear systems dynamics, and applied mathematics to discuss new insights and developments about data science, changing systems, multi-hazard events and the linkage between hazard and vulnerabilities under unstable environmental conditions. Knowledge transfer, communication and networking will be key issues of the conference. The conference will be organized by means of invited talks given by outstanding…

Public Defence of Dominik Paprotny: Methods for Improving Pan-European Flood Risk Mapping
On November 14, Dominik Paprotny will be defending his dissertation entitled: "Methods for Improving Pan-European Flood Risk Mapping" Abstract In the past decade, there has been growing interest in analysing flood hazard and risk on European scale. Such studies allow assessment of climate change impacts, can be used at EU-level policymaking and provide information on countries where local flood maps are not available. In this thesis, some innovative methodologies that contribute to improvement of pan-European flood mapping are explored. The…
